Rushaga Gorilla sector has more gorilla-habituated families than any other sector in the National Park. Bwindi Impenetrable National Park has in recent years recorded the highest number of mountain gorillas compared to all other habituation areas in the world. With about 459 individual mountain gorillas as per the 2019 Gorilla Census, Bwindi is a perfect place to see mountain gorillas in the world.  This population makes up almost half of all the

mountain gorillas in the world.  The Rushaga gorilla sector is located in the southern part of the park and has more habituated gorilla families. The high costs of gorilla trekking in Rwanda have driven most tourists to the Rushaga Gorilla sector since it is cheaper and accessible from Kigali through the Cyanika border in the Kisoro district.

Why trek Mountain Gorillas in the Rushaga Sector?  Rushaga shelters the highest numbers of habituated mountain gorilla families that are available for trekking. The Rushaga gorilla sector habituates five gorilla groups which guarantee travelers great chances of accessing the permits except other gorilla sectors. Of all the sectors in Bwindi, Rushaga is allocated 40 gorilla trekking permits per day which are sold to trek in this region as compared to other regions and they never get out of stock, therefore clients have high chances of accessing these permits. The gorilla families in Rushaga include the Nshongi, Busingye, Kahungye, Bweza, kutu, Rwigi, Muchunguzi, and Bikini.
